National Day of PrayerNational Day of Prayer

The National Day of Prayer is a nation-wide event that is celebrated each year in cities throughout the United States on the First Thursday of May.  Mission Portland works closely with James Autry, the NDP-Oregon State Coordinator to encourage all believers to gather for public and private prayer meetings on the National Day of Prayer.

Portland National Day of Prayer 2006

Since February 2005, a team of local National Day of Prayer coordinators has been developing a new approach to the National Day of Prayer in Portland for 2006. We have divided Portland into eight areas, each hosted by a large church to host a service planned by the churches in that area.

The Portland Area Planning Team has mapped out six tasks for each area planning team:
    1. Recruit representatives from supporting churches.
    2. Plan a worship and prayer service using as many worship teams and pastors as possible (may need   to be done with a subgroup).
    3. Publicize the event to all churches in the area.
    4. Produce any materials handed out at the service.
    5. Prepare a budget and submit to the Portland Area Planning Team.
    6. Pray for the event and each other, encourage others to pray.

The National Day of Prayer, West Regional Conference for Event planners was November 8-10, 2002 at the Portland 
Airport Embassy Suites Hotel.  
"The work is extensive and spread out,
and we are widely separated from each other along the wall. Wherever you
hear the sound of the trumpet, join us there.  Our God will fight for
us!"  Neh. 4:19, 20

Dr. Frank Wright, Executive Director of the D. James Kennedy Center for 
Christian Statesmanship in Washington, DC was our keynote speaker.

This year's 51st Annual National Day of Prayer was Thursday, May 2, 2002.  Millions of Americas participated in at least 40,000 of prayer events across America, including the following:

bulletPortland National Day of Prayer Luncheon at the Doubletree Hotel / Lloyd Center from 11am - 1:30pm which featured various key Pastors who lead us in a concert of prayer for our nation, our city and our leaders.  The luncheon was broadcasted live on K-Praise 1330 AM from 12:30pm to 1:30pm and was again hosted by Northeast Community Fellowship Church.

 

bulletThe Nationally Broadcast Concert of Prayer was also broadcasted live on K-Praise 1330 AM from 5pm to 8pm from Constitutional Hall in Washington, DC. 

 

bulletAt least 108 Events took place throughout the State of Oregon.  For the latest information on events throughout the nation, go to www.nationaldayofprayer.org/calendar.cfm and click on the desired State.

Last year's 50th Annual National Day of Prayer was Thursday, May 3, 2001.  Millions of Americas participated in at least 30,000 prayer events across America, including the following:

bulletPortland National Day of Prayer Luncheon at the Doubletree Hotel / Lloyd Center from 11am - 1:30pm which featured various key Pastors who lead us in a concert of prayer for our nation, our city and our leaders  The luncheon will also be broadcasted live on K-Praise 1330 AM from 12 Noon to 1pm and was hosted by Northeast Community Fellowship Church.

 

bulletThe Nationally Broadcast Concert of Prayer will also be broadcasted live on K-Praise 1330 AM from 5pm to 8pm from Dr. Jack Hayford's Church on the Way in Los Angeles, California.  

The 49th Annual National Day of Prayer was Thursday, May 4th, 2000.  The following events were held in the Portland/Vancouver metro area. 

bulletA Prayer Gathering at City Hall in Downtown Portland, wherein more than 50 people prayed for the city, the state, the region and our nation from 12pm to 1pm (of which the 12:30pm-1:00pm portion was broadcasted live on K-Praise 1330 AM Radio) after which five teams of intercessors prayer walk the downtown Portland towards the North, South, East and West and one team of International Students from Korean prayer walked all four floors of City Hall praying for each office and its staff.

 

bulletThousands of listeners throughout the Greater Portland/Vancouver metropolitan area participated in the Nationally Broadcast Concert of Prayer live from Dallas, New York, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles from 5pm-8pm on K-Praise 1330 AM Radio.
